Strike continues at Alcoa's Australian aluminum project; union says it will hold further talks with management
Melbourne, September 26 - Unions at Alcoa's West Australian aluminum project said they will meet with management on Wednesday to try to find a solution to the strike, which has lasted more than six weeks. Last week, Alcoa revised its pay offer. Union workers at two alumina refineries and three bauxite mines began striking on August 8, concerned that the new agreement lacked job security. The timing of the strike is also sensitive, coinciding with a very tight supply of alumina. As a result, aluminum prices have risen 20% in a month. Australian Workers' Union official Mik

Optimized design of hollow, planar, and long-section aluminum profile dies
1. Optimization of some large-section hollow profiles molds. In conventional designs, hollow profiles with large hollow sections often exhibit defects such as large-area waviness, excessive planar gaps, and obvious welds. These problems are usually due to unreasonable mold design structures. Therefore, the author adopted a biased bridge for the upper mold and added convex ribs in the hopper for the lower mold. During the production process, defects such as large-area waviness and excessive planar gaps in the profiles are generally caused by the high metal flow velocity near the center of the large-area distribution holes. Therefore, a convex rib of appropriate length is placed in front of the large-area mold holes in the welding chamber. In this way, when the metal

The plan for autumn and winter air pollution control in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region has been issued, adjusting the “one-size-fits-all” production restrictions.
To fully prepare for air pollution prevention and control work during the autumn and winter of 2018-2019, Vice Premier Han Zheng of the State Council presided over the first meeting of the Leading Group for Air Pollution Prevention and Control in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and surrounding areas and delivered an important speech. The meeting reviewed and adopted the "Action Plan for Comprehensive Governance of Air Pollution in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and surrounding areas during the autumn and winter of 2018-2019" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan"). The Plan stipulates that, starting from October 1, 2018, the special emission limits for air pollutants in the power generation, steel, petrochemical, chemical, non-ferrous metal (excluding alumina), and cement industries, as well as industrial boilers, will be strictly enforced, and pollution in key industries will be further reduced.

Steel exports are expected to see a slight year-on-year increase in 2019
The General Administration of Customs released China's import and export data for January 2019 on February 14. The data shows that in January 2019, China exported 6.188 million tons of steel, an increase of 630,000 tons compared to the previous month, a month-on-month increase of 11.3%, and a year-on-year increase of 33.3%; steel imports totaled 1.179 million tons, an increase of 173,000 tons compared to the previous month, and a year-on-year decrease of 1.0%. Steel exports have seen a month-on-month rebound for two consecutive months, with a significant year-on-year increase in January, reaching a new high since July 2018. Wang Guoqing stated that the reappearance of export price advantages is the main driver for the significant increase in steel exports in January. Domestic steel prices, after two...
